Irreantum: Purpose

Irreantum's Purpose and Philosophy

For the last 5 years, Irreantum: Exploring Mormon Literature has been the official publication of the AML. Now, under the direction of a new editorial board, the next generation of Irreantum will soon be available.

New features:

  • Critical essays
  • Stronger emphasis on poetry
  • Readers Write section (mini personal essays from our readers)
  • From the Archives section (re-prints of classic Mormon literary texts)
  • Regular film response, reflections on the current Mormon cinema scene
  • Plus. more of the same writing you've come to expect from Irreantum - fiction, plays, screenplays, creative non-fiction, and book reviews.

We accept translations of literary work written in languages other than English.

We also consider submissions of critical essays that explore the intersections of religion, literature, and film in the context of the Mormon experience. We are especially interested in the following topics: Film and Religion, The Nineteenth Century, Spiritual Autobiography, International Contexts, Poetry, Sacred Texts, Mormon Spaces.
