The theme and characters are the ultimate LDS members with solveable LDS problems. The story starts out with a young boy (17) whos father had died some years earlier and was now having problems at home, school and church. The single sister (mother) is at the end of her rope to solve the boys problem. As fiction magic, the ward bishop calls a semi-active brother to be their home teacher. The home teacher happens to be a frieght pilot and relates to the boy who's father had been killed in an air force fighter accident. The boy learns to fly and accompanies the home teacher on numerous flights and thereby begins to learn that the elements taught in the Church have a lot of importance. Although not specific it is implied that the home teacher establishes more than a home teacher relationship with the mother. He has many meals with the family with no companion mentioned. On face value the book was fun, easy to run and a predictable outcome. I think that it would be good for a family read book. I would suggest that the possible undertones be avoided. One is that not all problems are so easily solved. An that Home Teachers have no business getting involed with single sisters other than what that home teaching assignment might be. That is one of the reasons that we are instructed to go in groups of two. However let me make a statement here. "The Home Teaching Program is inspired." I do not believe that there is another church on this earth that attempts to take care of its on as well as the LDS Church. I know that there are a lot of inspired HT assignments that are perfect for families. I love the program and know that it works.
Thanks for letting me ramble
